Rhythm & Autism is one woman’s celebration of difference and an open invitation for everyone to embrace every part of themselves, clapping obsessions included! With this new solo show, singer-songwriter Andee Joyce has created a sensory-friendly experience that is all at once an interactive musical, poignant comedy, and a rhythmic journey through the past…backwards. In a Wonder Years style musical narrative, Joyce plays guitar and sings about growing up autistic amid the pop culture cheese of the 1960s and 1970s. Rhythm & Autism culminates in her showdown with the “Clappy Monster,” an entity that manifested itself during the pandemic and changed her relationship with music, other people, and her own past in ways she never dreamed possible. With a dream of being the Hannah Gadsby of music, Andee is available to present Rhythm & Autism in schools, libraries, community centers, or any gathering space that allows for flapping, clapping, and learning more about neurodiversity.
