Many Hats Collaboration presents
Growing New Works Within Theatre Institutions – a panel discussion
Moderated by Jessica Wallenfels
Festival Date: Jan 26 @ 6pm
Artists Repertory Theatre
1515 SW Morrison St.
Join the discussion as Lue Douthit (Director of Literary Development/Dramaturgy, Oregon Shakespeare Festival), Luan Schooler (Director of New Play Development & Dramaturgy, Artists Repertory Theatre), Mead Hunter (Performing and Fine Arts Faculty, University of Portland and Artistic Director, New Harmony Project) and Ben Fainstein (Literary Manager, Portland Center Stage) discuss the rewards and challenges of embarking on the unknown. In this informal discussion, we will examine various approaches to new work in both large and small repertory companies, as well as regional theatre and professional environments. How do approaches to development of new work vary by institution type and size? What are the advantages and liabilities of various “containers” when creating from the ground up? What do different development models look like, from talent recruitment to workshopping to production? Jessica Wallenfels (director/choreographer, The Snowstorm), artistic director of Many Hats Collaboration, will moderate the discussion, as well as a question and answer session.
