What makes a musical? Who makes a musical? And how long does it take to go from light bulb to footlight? Join this experienced panel in discussing how musicals are made. We start with musical theatre writers Mark LaPierre (whose work has been produced at the York Off-Broadway, sold-out run at NYMF – New York Musicals Festival, and PAMTA winner for Best Original Musical and Best Original Score for Heart Beatings), and Eric Nordin (writer of The Wizard of Pantoland, Find Me Beside You, and contributor to 4×4=Musicals) to explore the writing and collaboration process. Next, Tony-Award winning Producer Corey Brunish (Matilda, Catch Me If You Can, Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, If/Then, Shuffle Along and the upcoming Come From Away, Dear Evan Hansen and Empire) shares his insights on taking the musical into the professional realm. We wrap up with Broadway actress Barrett Wilbert Weed (the original Veronica in Heathers: The Musical at New World Stages, Lysistrata Jones, FOUND the Musical) to delve into the process of originating a role on a timeline. Moderated by Director/Producer Diane Englert (Portland Rep, Staged!, SPECTRE Productions). For more info, please visit stagedpdx.org or call us at 971-803-7713
